Illinois Attorney General Begins Investigation Into Chicago Nursing Facility
In a sign of mounting troubles for a Chicago nursing facility, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has asked state regulators to crack down on doctors, nurses and other licensed health care professionals who neglect patients at Alden Village North.
Writing to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Madigan asked for the status of all complaints against staffers at Alden Village North and other facilities in the Alden nursing home chain. She also asked the department to work closely with the Illinois Department of Public Health to identify and discipline employees who mistreat patients in nursing homes statewide.
Madigan’s action came in response to Chicago Tribune investigative reports that detailed a 10-year pattern of death and chronic neglect at Alden Village North, 7464 N. Sheridan Road. On Thursday, the state public health department announced it was taking steps to close the home because of a track record of serious violations. Alden said it will appeal and remain open.
Madigan’s letter, sent Tuesday, highlights the case of Stephen Pruitt, a 14-year-old Alden Village North resident with profound mental disabilities. The Tribune reported how in July he was not immediately sent to a hospital when he began breathing rapidly. State inspectors found that Alden staff paged the boy’s doctor six times over 19 hours before the physician responded.
In citing the facility, inspectors concluded that the home should have contacted its medical director instead of waiting for the doctor to respond. The boy died two months later. The department of professional regulation said that it routinely coordinates with public health officials to investigate the conduct of licensed nursing home employees.
Madigan also sent a letter Tuesday to the state public health department, requesting details about Alden Village North’s violation history. She wrote that although Alden has promised to correct problems, “it is far from clear that these plans have worked.”

Ever since the latest special census, the city of Aurora, Illinois has been known as the second largest city in the State of Illinois behind Chicago. However many Illinois home buyers tend to overlook Aurora for housing. However, as a local Aurora real estate agent working with homes in this community every day, I truly feel there is something for everyone.
There are over 135 distinct subdivisions in Aurora ranging from small 25-unit condominium complexes to huge master-planned subdivisions of over a thousand homes. One of the great things about the many niche communities that make up Aurora is the incredible selection available to home buyers. Looking for a modern up-scale town home? Take a look at Reflections or Legacy Fields or one of the other beautiful town home complexes. Looking for a 19th Century Victorian? Check out the Near Westside Historic District. What about a nice 4,000 square foot ranch? The Alschuler subdivision will have exactly what you’re looking for.
Perhaps one of the most difficult things about being a REALTOR working in a city with this many different small communities is getting to know the ins-and-outs of each one. From my experience, almost every subdivision in Aurora has a very unique feel. Getting to know these communities and the people who make up each one is both fun and challenging in a city as large as Aurora. It’s great to be able to appreciate all of the subdivisions in Aurora as unique communities, yet it takes a long time to really get a good feel for each of them. This is why a local REALTOR gives buyers looking for homes in the Fox Valley such a tremendous advantage. We can help point out areas and details in each subdivision that might otherwise be overlooked. Also, the knowledge we gather about each community can help buyers adjust to living in the Chicagoland area, particularly with out-of-town buyers relocating from other areas of the country.
If you are searching for homes, it is vital that you contact a local real estate expert as early as possible in your search. With the extreme variety of subdivisions you’ll find in Aurora and the surrounding Fox Valley, the advice and expertise provided by your local REALTOR will prove invaluable to your search. Knowing the details of each community is a time consuming process but one your local real estate expert has dedicated their career to doing. One thing your local real estate expert will be able to assist you with is to give you an idea of the home styles and price ranges in each niche community. This is particularly important if you are shopping on a budget. Matching up buyers to the homes they’re looking for is one of the most important things we do.
Finally, many of the unique communities you’ll find in Aurora Illinois are made up of equally unique and interesting residents. Perhaps one of the most enjoyable things in getting to know each community is also getting to know the people that make up each subdivision. There are many areas that have very strong, close-knit communities that are perfect for many home buyers looking for caring and responsible neighbors.
